Off the clock
The stuff that actually matters.
Taxes pay the bills. Family, faith, and a couple of stubborn hobbies fill the rest.
Family & Hobbies
Home base.
I live in Southern California with my wife Caroline and our three kids. When I'm not working, I'm probably at home reading history, working on my ancient coin collection, doing LEGOs with my kids, going on a family hike, or planning our next vacation.
I'm also involved with our church's Trail Life group with our two boys (it's like a Christian Boy Scouts). It's been a struggle learning how to get better at camping.
I'm also trying to exercise more, drink less, up my protein, and eat fewer burritos. I think I'm carrying around 50 pounds of burritos alone.
Also, my wife recently started a garden in our backyard. That's been cool.

Current Obsessions
What I'm into right now.
A mix of books, gear, and random things catching my attention lately. Some links are affiliate — thanks if you pick one up.

The Odyssey
Homer (trans. Peter Green)
The epic poem that launched my ancient-history reading list.

Marie Sharp's Hot Habanero Pepper Sauce
10 oz
The Belizean hot sauce that goes on everything in our house.

Ancient Coins
History you can hold.
I've been collecting ancient — mostly imperial Roman but also some older Greek stuff — for a few years now. I enjoy the tangible connection to the ancient world that coins provide.
Roman Denarius
A silver denarius from the reign of Augustus.
I've been thinking about...
"Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking."
— William Butler Yeats
